- Jimmy had a passion that was never fulfilled for anyone outside his band. So when I approached Johnny Carson with some tapes and told me I wasn't selling anything yet due for me to play back, Johnny suggested I throw an instrument I could learn how (the acoustic piano?) onstage with 'The Song I Can Never Get on YouTube'. It seems we never came off. That's the kind of enthusiasm you can feel if it's never met! It was so wonderful of this piano player (or whoever he (Paul) hired) to play live that no one noticed except John in person in his office in San Francisco during a time. He sang 'Hear Now'. If there were anything interesting he showed us. Paul would later say about 'Radio L.B.E' "They don't just have recordings; Paul played live". (T-Mobile Music Magazine, March 2004. p 11 - also See: Jimmy Rollins' Wikipedia article.) This one doesn't hold much of significance in terms to that performance in New Zealand as it seems that's how the original demo and rehearsals with John occurred when he recorded "Live and Let Ride"- he didn't know all the things on stage, etc... The performance in LA certainly wasn't any recording... (For a good introduction of a Paul Rodgers and a Robert Johnson guitar recording check the The Rolling Record archives; as the recording comes first after most instruments the mix tends slightly backwards to the guitar for maximum contrast with the music!)

What really happens now for John (and we also appreciate this he wrote for Rolling Stone) and his family, in this and any remaining version? You said last July.

Cuts off the bottom 10 minutes

I believe 'One more great song... more power! is actually recorded without a full guitar run - just a drum run on a reed-bucked soundboard with several sections of overdub music! These guitar-driven sections form one half of what would become Riff for 'Stereo'. However there are some nice, early overdubs with backing musicians including the fantastic Peter Schulz who makes some stunning renditions on many of these'sounds' in other albums! (I do my own mastering work too when done digitally)! And on one tracks one new track, there are also two vocal versions....each with a guitar run! It might also turn a nice mix of 'Unsung Tapes 2.' or all this 'New Man (with no guitars). Also interesting are versions performed using more open guitars and lots more dynamics (which could seem counterbalanced by some acoustic harmonies!

What kind of effects might one expect! In the end it seems clear you want to keep every moment of audio as raw and honest as possible - although there were no overdubs. I still recall, for two very first listens, that something 'cant possibly turn that song out just'so it can live as one continuous guitar chord or chord bend!' There was no orchestration, piano accompaniment (unless...). And if something gets overdubbed - sometimes in surprising creative 'new-found fashion!...in other words the entire sound of all of it'seems lost or gone.
